I love to write stories, poetry, and lyrics. I've even drafted a few books. In 2020, I finished my first novella. That's my favorite work, and I'm working on rewriting it now, incorporating everything I've since learned about good writing and storytelling.
In 2021, I wrote my first novel (>50k words) as part of NaNoWriMo. While I'm proud of accomplishing a goal I set for myself, I'm not really happy with the result. From this experience, I learned that I don't want to sacrifice quality just for the sake of achieving a goal.
While I'm not ready to share my books with a broad audience yet, here's a poem that I wrote a while ago:
The Girl Who Doesn't Exist
by Harper Daughtry
You may pity the girl who doesn't exist,
But she is sorry for you!
You must have all sorts of feelings, from yellow to blue.
"Such a hassle!" she thinks in her nonexistent head,
Neither real, nor fake, nor dead.
Us existing people must work, and learn, and look instead of see,
While she is the definition of lazy,
Although, she can't be happy,
Or even just be,
And, in fact, is nothing, not a "she".
